Types of Digital Communication Tools
Email:
Widely used by businesses, individuals, schools, inter-personally or professional settings as a whole.
Pros: Allows for detailed and organized communication. Can be assessed anywhere with internet communication and ability to send attachments.
Cons: Can be easily ignored or deleted. It is not as effective fr urgent or time-sensitive communication. It can be prone to spam/phishing.
Most used emails:
Gmail, Outlook, and iCloud
Social Media:
Facebook, Instagram, TikTok etc.
Pros: Easy and informational communication. Can reach a wide audience.
Cons: Not as private or secure as other communication methods (nothing ever truly private). Risk of being time-consuming and addictive. Not suitable for all types of communication.
Video Conferencing:
Pros: Face-to-Face communication from anywhere in the world. Saves time and travel expenses. Supports group communication.
Cons: Requires a stable internet connection and proper equipment. May be prone to technical difficulties. May not be as effective for certain types of communication.
The Emergence of More Communication Tools:
Emergence of the Internet since the mid-1990s:
The internet has facilitated a lot of communication between people over-time and has made it faster to reach people.
Communication has evolved over-time from handwritten letters, to telephone calls, etc.
Email: by-product of the world-wide web. The first people that used it were businesses and military:
Email used by businesses and military to exchange info.
Wearable Technology: Handsfree mobile headset, Smartwatches: Apple Watch, etc.
Handsfree headset
Used mainly by city workers. Gave business-people the ability to answer calls on-the-go mostly while driving.
Apple Watches allow you the ability to make calls from other devices as well.
Virtual Reality (VR):
Has been around since 2016
